Greenaway Nominations 2016

Oliver and Patch by Claire Freedman and Kate Hindley

This is a delightfully illustrated book. The main character, Oliver is a lonely little boy who has just moved house to a city from the countryside. This book highlights some of the issues living in a city showing that many people do not have time for each other as they are too busy with their own lives. Oliver finds a lost dog and they become friends which makes the city feel a little more friendly. When the dog and his true owner are reunited will this mean that Oliver is on his own again or will he have made another new friend.

This book uses weather and colour to demonstrate the changing mood of Oliver and shows that sometimes the mood we are in may impact on how we see others. The pictures are very detailed which will allow you to enjoy this book again and again.
