The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle

This story focuses on Cara, a 17 year old girl who’s family has been inflicted by the accident season for one month every October for as long as she can remember. During this month all the members of her family suffer accidents which lead to minor bruises, broken bones and in some cases can be fatal. This novel opens with Cara realising that there is a girl she goes to school with called Elsie who seems to be in the background of all of her pictures and ultimately the book follows Cara in her quest to find out the truth about Elsie and how it might be linked to the accident season.

This book had such an interesting premise that draws you in from the very start. Told from Cara’s perspective it takes on a dreamlike quality where you’re never really sure what’s real and what’s part of Cara’s imagination, adding to the overall eerie and supernatural nature of the book.

This book is beautifully written, captivating and and the ending will stay with you long after you finish reading.

I would recommend this for any teenager or adult who likes to read dark mysteries with a little bit of romance mixed in.
