Carnegie Nominations 2016

Game Changer by Tim Bowler

This well written thriller is about a boy called Mikey, nicknamed Mole because he is frightened by being outside and likes to be in the dark. He has spent all his life struggling with every day life when his world is thrown upside down by something he witnesses. As the story unfolds his battle with his personal fears come head on with something far more worrying and dangerous. Is Mikey able to suppress his own fears to protect those that he loves? A well written and fast moving book that covers the issues of fear from serval perspectives. Not only does it show how Mikey copes but also how his family, friends and teachers handle his problems and how it effects them too. This would be a good book for reluctant readers as well as a good quick read for those more able.
